UNBuilt

A series of commissioned projects that are unbuilt due to unforeseen circumstances, difference in client preferences and mostly, budget constraints.

Although it may be argued that these are failed projects, the design process that each has undergone certainly deserves a documentation and revisiting and each concept may prove to be useful for the future projects to come.

A 2-bedroom Bungalow

a Farm Somewhere  in Tagaytay

51 sq. m.

This farmhouse in Tagaytay is for a family with 4 members. The clients, now in their retirement years were thinking to construct their house that will also serve as a retirement home at their property in Tagaytay that was mainly used as pineapple plantation.

The clients only needed at least 2 bedroom s- a master and a shared bedroom for their children and basic living spaces.

To lessen the cost, it was envisioned that the whole house will just be in plain materials and mostly in barest finishes and accent colors were added to select walls as background to compensate.

Open planning is utilized for the dining-kitchen-living area so that each square meter of space can be used serving for various programs. Jalouplus windows are used as a more affordable variation for a picture window to take advantage of the farm's vista.

The entire house is elevated on stilts so as not to disrupt the natural landscape and due to its location on site having a steep slope. The house structure and exterior is made out of a basic block that is cut in half with 1 section in bare concrete finish and the other half painted to contrast the pineapple plantation that surrounds it.

After evaluating the cost of construction and due to a very limited budget, the project ultimately did not push through.

Extension to an existing house

2017

Batasan, Quezon City

28.50 sq. m.

This project is an extension of an existing house in a subdivision somewhere in Batasan, Q.C.

The owner wanted to add his own bedroom at the ground floor, complete with toilet and bath, and use the backyard as a larger kitchen. Budget was tight so we had to do our best to satisfy the client with the options that we have. We had to ensure that everything fits well within the budget without compromising the design intent.

The interior architecture was meant to contrast with the house's thematic design. The modern kitchen extension made mostly of clean lines is contrasted by a patterned flooring. The whole interiors is accentuated by a colored wall. The bedroom is furnished with wood in natural and plain finishes.

Although we were given freedom with the interiors, all we can do with the existing architecture is to repaint and suggest landscaping as subdivision admin rules prohibit us to tamper with the existing look of the neighborhood's "theme".

A change of client's priorities may have been the reason why the construction did not commence.
